2004 was a GREAT year for you, North Carolina!

Though 6 years old and counting, these curriculum guides from Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools in North Carolina are AMAZING! Each one is incredibly detailed, and for the inexperienced art teacher, they are definitely worth bookmarking (just remember where you save the link!).

HERE is a link to the district's website/Visual Arts page.
There are curriculum guides for elementary, middle school, high school, and honors courses. Below are a few images from the elementary guide. I'm a visual person, so it helps to have an image more so than a wordy description to refresh my memory. I have selected random parts that I find particularly useful.

This is what the layout of the Scope and Sequence chart looks like. I think this is very easy to determine which skills are required per grade level.

There is a section per each grade level titled "What every -grader Should Know and Be Able to Do."  This is a handy check-list for age/grade appropriate skills.  Likewise, each grade has recommended vocabulary words....not just 5 or 6, but a page full.  Vocab, vocab, vocab...literacy, literacy, literacy. YAY!

There are examples of assessments, rubrics, links, health and safety tips, glossary, and more.
