Organization is wonderful. I love it. Closet organizers with color-coded folded sweaters, shoes stored by season, style, and color; Kitchen cabinets with a place for everything, and everything in its place. Things hung and stored in containers, folders, shelves...perfectly placed in it's proper home. I LOVE IT.
...but what happens when you store the winter scarfs with the blankets because the are "crocheted?" What happens when you place the fruit roll-ups next to the strawberry jelly because they are "strawberry?" Paper plates, paper cups, and...paper for the printer? They are all paper, right?
I love, Love, LOVE organization. The problem lies in the fact that my brain loves to compare and contrast, to find similarities and differences. How is a Raven like a writing desk, and which category should they be placed in? Well, Ravens are birds. Birds live in trees. A writing desk can be made of wood. Wood comes from trees. Wood is a key commonality, therefore they should go with the band saw and 2 x 4's.
This thought process has severely impaired my ability to organize things in a linear manner. My thought process is more like a ball of yarn or spiderweb rather than a straight line. I start in the middle and work my way out. I start at the end and work backwards. I end up with an organized chaos...and twelve different methods that I use to sort my laundry on a given day.
I love to surf the web, and I love finding information that can help me in both my personal and professional life; but I organize my favorite websites just like I organize everything else. In random categories, with different methods, and in a billion different places.Diigo, Delicious, Pearltrees, web-browser's bookmarking button...all are great and (in theory) effective...but I use them all...then forget where I saved the great website I found at 2.00 a.m. the night before.
This blog is my 99th attempt to organize my "favorites." We'll see how long it takes me to move on to #100.
